Developmental Edit
Characters, tone, plot, setting, genre, consistency, relationships, worldbuilding, and genre are the subjects of a developmental edit. This edit includes a full read of your manuscript, featuring frequent in-line comments and regular check-ins to discuss what’s working, what’s not, and how to improve your story. This is an active dialogue, full of questions and suggestions. The goal is to make sure your story appeals to readers, sells well, and is what you envision.
Line Edit
A line edit is a read through your manuscript with a more narrow, focused view. This edit looks at each sentence to make sure it clearly conveys your ideas and reads well. It checks for consistency in tone and accuracy in facts, as well as grammar and punctuation. Specifically, it looks at how these serve the story as a whole. It features corrections where grammar and punctuation are concerned, and suggestions for clarity or consistency.
Copy Edit
Copy edits review punctuation, grammar, sentence flow, and clarity. No matter what kind of fantastical world or language you’ve come up with, it has grammar rules, and this will enforce them. This edit reviews facts, keeps timelines in order, and makes sure the language stays consistent. It checks for readability, grammatical accuracy, and consistency.
Proofread
Focused exclusively on grammar and punctuation, a proofread looks at your manuscript with a level of detail no spell checker can match. Designed to work with your writing, it strikes a balance between achieving formal accuracy and maintaining your own style. Errors in grammar throw the reader off. This can enhance the reading experience when done deliberately, but done wrong, the reader gets yanked out of your world. This edit makes sure your readers are exactly where you want them.
