  • Ethan worked with me to take my novel to the next level. He patiently took the time needed to help me along, answer my questions, and deliver a professional edit. He did developmental editing and proofreading for me, and I felt supported instead of run-over. In the dev edit he proved insightful and always respected my author’s voice and story, asking questions to help me say what I wanted with clarity. In proofreading, he was precise and had good attention to detail, and I had him running all over the manuscript to keep my grammar and style consistent throughout. For both edits, he pointed out issues but always deferred to my decisions. At the very end of our time working together, I realized I had made a couple of major formatting flaws throughout the entire novel (my fault).   • When I look for an editor, I'm looking for someone who will challenge me to push myself to improve technically and learn to be a better story teller. I hope they'll have a good sense of humor, because I love my criticism with a little bit of personality. I want to be able to trust that they're not letting me take short cuts, that they'll challenge me on things I need to be challenged on, and most of all that they're telling it exactly as they see it without censoring themselves to avoid hurting my feelings. I found all of this with Ethan, and I am delighted to be going through my edits.
